Music for Dancing

4minute animated GIF

There are some days when the only thing that'll make you feel better is putting a fun outfit on and jumping around your room like you know what you're doing, and these are some of the best songs to listen to while doing just that.  Thinking about it now, I actually do a lot of living room dancing (where few can see me, LOL).  When it comes to clearing your head, nothing works quite like #dancecardio.  And who cares how good a dancer you are?  Dancing is therapeutic.  Tell yourself you're awesome and rock it like it's choreographed.

Music Your Life

Okay, I know that "music" isn't a verb, but let's pretend that it is just for the sake of this post and the featured image of a kitten...

Sadness, Light, Hope

When I read about the Germanwings crash yesterday during lunch at school, my head started spinning and I became terribly nauseated.  It was like that crash was the culmination of all the other horrible flight accidents that have happened in the last year--MH370 and MH17, just to name two of them--and it was difficult to wrap my mind around it all without succumbing to the devastating power of it.  It feels like there are so many sad things (not that sad is at all an adequate word for any of them) happening every day.  If we were aware of all of them, it would be too much to handle, wouldn't it?
Yet despite the sadness, the pain, the horror, there's also this overwhelming feeling of hope everywhere, like it's going to be okay even when it seems that "okay" is impossible.  And though I always must acknowledge the melancholy, I can't help but to see the hope, too, because without it, what do we have?  I don't quite know where this post is going, but I suppose what I'm trying to get at is that I hope everyone lets hope exist inside of them.

Skintervention Spotlight: 4 Favorite Concealers

As someone with acne (woohoo!), I am well aware of the importance of a good concealer.  Even for people who don't consider themselves makeup-minded, cover-up can be a very special product, and in my years wearing it, I've picked out a few favorites.  These babies are not tested on animals and have been kind on the sensitive complexions of people like me and Iris.  Plus, they've worked for me on days when my skin has been oily and on days when it's been dry.

Product Image
I've been using this one a lot lately.  It's very, very lightweight and smooth, and it leaves your face looking dewy, bright, and fresh.  It's also moisturizing, so you don't have to worry that your hurting your skin when using it, and it has SPF 25.

Naked Skin in color
Aside from coming in a really cool bottle, this concealer by Urban Decay is, as its name suggests, practically weightless.  It also comes in 18 shades and has green tea and anti-wrinkle peptides, and its "light-diffusing spheres" blend into your skin in such a way that it appears totally flawless.  Not that it isn't already ;)...

Smarty Plantsâ„¢ CC SPF 20 Skin complexion corrector in 3 shades
This product has an adorable name (Smarty Plants!) and is designed to help "neutralize skin damaging effects of city smog and pollution."  It's like the environmentalist of skincare, and it's both hydrating and rejuvenating.  Like the other concealers I've mentioned, it also feels very lightweight.
Amazonian clay waterproof 12-hour concealer

When it comes to touch-ups, Tarte's concealer stick takes on the role of a magic wand.  I have one in my purse because it works so well in emergencies.  (You know...that moment when you realize you have a lovely red spot on your forehead?)  It isn't chalky, and it blends in easily.  Also, a little goes a long way, so it'll last you a long time.

Sunday Soundtrack

Happy third day of Spring!  I've been doing a lot of work, work, work, but the idea of warmer weather has been motivating (even if today is totally overcast). Having music in the background helps a lot, too.

Last Day of Winter Playlist

Post 150!  Yay!  Today is the last day of Winter, too, which is sort of crazy.  I spent the first half of this week taking standardized tests (yeah!), but now everything's pretty much back to normal, and I have some music to share.

Alice in Wonderland

As anyone who knows me can tell you, I very much enjoy anything Alice in Wonderland-related. Black-and-white striped socks, talking rabbits, pocket watches, mirrors....everything is just so storybook eerie!  Iris was showing me some of the Alice-inspired art/fashion/etc. she found online the other day, and we wanted to post about it, too :).  Everyone could use a little Wonderland, right?

Getting Warmer

I just realized that the first day of spring is a week from tomorrow.  Given all of the snow last week, it's difficult to believe that the end of winter is almost here, but the weather has been warmer the past few days.  And there's been a lot of rain.  I've been wearing an over-sized raincoat with a happy little owl on it almost every day.  Is it a very fashion-forward raincoat?  Probably not, but who can resist a happy little owl?
Anyway, I thought it would be fun to put up a little spring style inspiration in honor of the coming equinox and the above-freezing temperatures.

Writer Struggles

Iris shared this really funny and entirely true quote with me the other day, and I can't help but to post it.
Displaying writers block.jpg

The sad thing is that when this happens, I just want to tell my imaginary friends, "Really?  Who else are you going to talk to?"  I love them, but it's difficult when they're not cooperating.  Those who have experienced this totally understand what I'm talking about.  Those who haven't may think I'm crazy.

Icy Dwarf Planets & Losing One Hour

I know that we technically turned our clocks forward yesterday, but I think that the whole time-loss thing has really hit me more so now that it's Monday.  Waking up at 5:15 just feels so wrong when it should only be 4:15.  Sigh.  I hope everyone else is coping well enough with the time change.  I wish we could have it when it was actually spring or summer because then it would at least be warm outside....
In other news, NASA's Dawn probe has arrived at Ceres, an icy dwarf planet between Mars and Jupiter.  Dawn has been travelling for almost eight years (!) to get to Ceres, and now she's finally there!  I may just be being a stereotypical romantic idealist/writer/dreamer, but I like to see personalities in planets and in things like spacecrafts, the Mars rovers, etc., and I'm very excited.

Also...I have a sunshine-related song dedication for the hour that we lost yesterday.  I know that it's technically sunnier now in the evening, but I feel like my morning sunshine has been stolen.
